Planning SharePoint 2016 Large Intranet
Below is a Visio poster diagram I created outlining how I might propose a large scale collaboration Intranet running SharePoint 2016. MinRole will give more granular control to “unit scale” servers out as individual roles show high utilization. Monitor, scale, repeat? Can’t wait to try the beta later this year.

Awesome, Jeff! Would be useful to add an element of hybrid to this. I think we’re going to see hybrid become even more commonplace with SP2016 being born ‘cloud-ready.’ 🙂
so… I am seeing 2 crawl, 2 query…yet the poster only shows 3 servers for those roles… are you looking at sharing two roles on one server, or did you accidentally leave off the fourth server?
great question! here I was looking at sharing roles on the “middle” machine to achieve redundancy (no single copy of a service). given time and monitoring you’d observe which role “peaks” for performance and then expand capacity where needed.
